BACK IN BLACK BABY! TRUE PURDUE FANS 1 TILLER 0

  1. Will Purdue stay healthy?
  2. When/how will Danny lose a game by a coaching gaff?
Here we go…. Purdue VS. Middle Tenn. St. (WIN) Danny loses one of these games every year.. Purdue @ Rice (WIN) Besides Ohio ST. Purdue plays Better on the road Purdue VS. Southwest Mizz. St. (WIN) Lose this and the hot seat under Danny gets set to high. Purdue VS. Notre Dame (LOSE) Good Lord! 8pm!  Purdue VS. Minn. (WIN) Who is coaching Minn? But hey we are 4-1! Purdue @ Penn State (LOSE) The students are taught the “WE ARE PENN STATE” chant to remind Jo Pa what team he is coaching Purdue VS. Illinois (LOSE) No Cannon Purdue @ Michigan (LOSE) bad….. Purdue @ Wisconsin (LOSE) What QB has survived to get a beat down Purdue VS. Ohio State (LOSE) but close if we are still healthy Purdue VS. Iowa (LOSE) Iowa always blows one game a year…. Is this it? Purdue @ IU (WIN) Have to win or new coach is coming, lose and keep danny and we will be able to tailgate in the north endzone next year.

4-8

Two other questions.1) Does Danny play more QB's on purpose or by injury?.  Not sure I like the idea of a two QB system or do we have a coach who can't make a decision.  2) Does Ralph Bolden return to 2009 form?.  It could make our QB's look better. MSTU    Win    We usually win these games, lets hope things haven't gotten that bad.Rice      Lose  When was the last time we won a road gameSWMS  Win    Again, I am assuming things haven't gotten that bad.ND        Lose   Nothing like sitting around all day / night and getting beat down.Minn      Win    Former MAC Coach of the year Gerry Kill.PSU      Lose   As with all games at big time schools.ILL        Win     ILL...INI..suck really bad.MU        Lose   God I miss Rich Rod already.UW       Lose    Can you say beat down?.OSU      Lose    Assuming rest of starting line up and waterboys are not suspended.Iowa      Lose     Beat down again.IU          Win      Maybe?.  There you go, a 5-7 finish and fifth place finish in the Leaders or Losers division, I am not really sure.  A few more years like this and we will have our old seats back.   Wally.

"Past performance is not an indicator of future results."  Unfortunately, I still have season ending loss to IU in mind.

Purdue VS. Middle Tenn. St.   Win, good start

Purdue @ Rice                 Loss, traditional MAC loss transfers to this

game

Purdue VS. SWMS               Win, SWMS is even bad acronym

Purdue VS. Notre Dame         Loss, Notre Dame shows up for prime time

Purdue VS. Minnesota          Win, but it is Minnesota

Purdue @ Penn State           Loss, tough road game

Purdue VS. Illinois           Loss, skid has started

Purdue @ Michigan             Loss, Michigan defends house

Purdue @ Wisconsin            Loss, Purdue will win at Camp Randall, not

this year but likely in my lifetime

Purdue VS. Ohio State         Loss, OSU won't have Prior to lose game like

Purdue VS. Iowa               Win, Iowa falters, Purdue rallies

for Hope's job

Purdue @ IU                   Win, retaliation from last year

5-7 and that may be optimistic.  Will be a great tailgating season.

Niemoeller genes have transferred to Andrew, looks like he's pulling guard for 5th grade football.

2010

 Wallman

Wow, its hard to believe that another football season is almost upon us.  Where did the summer go?.  Lets get ready for some football with the 10th Annual RBT Predictions.
As a refresher from last season, Purdue started out playing terribly.  Joey Elliot was a T/O machine, special teams were awful, and the coaching staff made some bad decisions.  Somehow Purdue pulled it together for a big upset of OSU and finished the season on a 4 - 2 run against a weak Big Ten (11, 12?).
Spring game :
- Marve looked good in the second half, he fits the offense very well.  Kevin Smith gives us one good WR.  If Norm had any elligibilty left, he could have played RB. Several new faces on the O-line, but this is supposed to be Coach Hope's specialty.
- The D's front seven should be good, with Kerrigan and all returning starters.  They will need to pressure the QB because we have three new guys and our returning nickle as a starter behind them.
The schedule is an interesting one, we have a lot of winnable games at home, plus a
couple of winnable games on the road.  One home game in Oct and three in Nov. The IU game is Thanksgiving weekend and I can't wait to see the half empty stadium.
Here are my best picks for 2010 :
@ND     Loss   16 - 24   Kelly is a bit of a jerk, but still a good coach.
WIU      Win     42 - 10   That's why we schedule these preseason games.
BSU     Win     38 - 17   They had their one season in the sun.
Tol        Win     35 - 27   Can't wait to see the Jambulance again.
@NU     Loss   24 - 31   NU seems to have found a nice mix of skill / talent.
Minn     Win     28 - 13   Fighting it out with IU / UI for worst team in Big Ten?
@OSU  Loss   14 - 42   A real beat down for last year.
@UI      Win     27 - 20   The Ron Zook Farwell Tour.
UW       Loss   17 - 28   We just can't seem to get past those dirty badgers.
UM       Win     24 - 20   The Rich Rod Farwell Tour.
@MSU  Loss    21 - 24   The difference between a real bowl and a fake one.
IU          Win     40 - 20   The over / under for attendance is at 30,000 actual.
There you have it, a 7 - 5 season and a bowl no one will care about.  An improvement, but where do we go from here?.
For those of you who have not heard, The Pub was closed this summer.  It was a good bar at one time, cheap drinks, good food and very few students.  The kind of place you could drink and watch sports, before the term sports bar was invented.
Hope to see you at Hunter's on Fri, Sep. 12th to kick off our 19th season of tailgating.

Wally.
John:

Confident Boilers everywhere.  Let’s come back to reality…

@ND:  Loss 31 – 17          back to getting beat regularly by ND

WIU:  Win 24 – 17             Slow moving win

BSU:  Win 27 – 14             BSU off to a bad season

Toledo:  Win 24 – 23        Silly overconfidence almost flattens Boilers

@NU:  Loss 34 – 24          Boilers bad on the road

MINN:  Win 38 – 20         Best game of the year for PU

@OSU:  Loss 41 – 10        no need to comment

@UI:  Loss 17 – 14            Bad game all the way around

UW:  Loss 28 – 24             Run over by the Badgers

UM:  Win 34 – 28              Hope brings hope at home

@MSU:  Loss 28 – 10       No hope on the road

IU:  Win 21 – 20                 Last second touchdown wins for the home team

2nd year shaky for Hope; too many new faces.  I think we are headed for a few 6 – 6 years until the program is established.  Bright spot is we’ll beat IU wherever they play…IU; Lucas Oil; or Westfield Middle School.

Hope to see you guys a few times this year…fall weekends are loosening up.

Rich:

Football season at last.  Tired of Brewers beating Cubs senseless only to be beaten senseless by same Cubs.

As for wide-eyed optimism -

@ND     Win        21-17     Early overconfidence dooms Domers

WIU      Win        24-21     Overconfident from ND, Boilers must rally to win

BSU        Win        35-21     Ball State no longer best team in state

Toledo  Win        28-21     Purdue finds secret to sweeping MAC is paying attention

@NU    Loss       28-35     First road loss; defense confused, secondary soils themselves

Minn     Win        35-31     Minnesota offense confuses Purdue, nearly wins

@OSU  Loss       7-35       Real quarterbacking for OSU avenges, blows out

@UI      Win        24-17     Zook can’t leave, NCAA is not investigating yet

UW       Loss       10-14     Have to win one once; this is not the year

UM       Loss       14-24     Terrible performance in front of bowl reps

@MSU  Win        21-17     Shocking road win over poor-performing MSU team

IU          Win        35-21     Win over bad team

Looks like a soft 8-4 to me; leads to a good bowl game, only to be blown out.

Can bring brats or turkey for Minnesota or UW, let me know.  Will road trip to NU if anyone interested.  Sucks about The Pub.

Rich

Purdue Offense 2010:
Upgrade @ QB
Downgrade @ RB
Slight Downgrade @ Line
Even @ Wide reciver
Defense 2010
Even - slight upgrade Defense line
Up grade Linebackers
Downgrade Defensive Backs
Special teams upgrade
Coaches (with emanual back) upgrade.
So, Lets have fewer turnovers and even less stupid coaching mistakes and will have more wins right? Well the Bigten is better this year too...so 5-7 wins seam resonable. If Marve really blows up @ Qb and the all new secondary does not get torched every Saturday I say 7 wins.
@ ND = @ Oregon last year. Purdue Wins 28-21. ND Makes more mistakes then we do
WIU,BSU,TOL = wins 31-21
@ NU = Loss. 35-24 First team to exploit our seconday after seeing them on tape
Minn = Win, 24-21 Brewster bad coach, no talent in Minnesota
@ Ohio State = loss, 41-7 Hope marve survives
@ Illini = win, 35-34
Wisconsin = loss 17-10 Badgers better
Meatchicken = Win 35-31
@ MSU = Loss 24-21 - better players
IU Win in a barnburner 45-44 in 2 overtimes. IU looked great against Townsend state last night
Start 4-0. Finish 8-4

2009

Wallman:

Let's recap last year, for those of you who have forgotten or had too much to drink at the IU game and don't remember.  Three years after giving up coaching and recruiting, Joe Tiller finally retired.  Brock Spack has moved on to a small school in Illinois and Danny Hope brought in the 10th ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten after doing nothing but recuiting and coaching the O-line.
vs. Toledo          W - If we all kick in a few bucks Purdue can cover the spread.
at  Oregon          L - Beat a BCS team on the road, no way.
vs. NIU              W - They have been down for a few years.
vs. ND                L - Maybe we can at take out Charlie's other ACL.
vs. Northwestern  L - Two years ago Fitzgerald looked like he was in over his head.
at  Minnesota      L - No more Metrodome for the Gophers.
vs. OSU              L - Could be a real beating, I am not sure I want to go to this one.
vs. Illinois           W - Hoping for a win, Illinois has some talent on Offense.
at  Wisconsin      L - Cheeseheads prevail.
at  Michigan        L - If this was a home game we might have a chance.
vs. MSU             L - Lost their RB, but have a lot of others returning.
at  Indiana         W - At least we still have IU.  If tickets were $20, parking $5, and
John showed up to the games, it would be just like the old days.
There you have it folks, a 4-8 season and our second losing season in a row.  A few more years like this and Morgan Burke will park our cars for us (but don't expect them to lower the price).
Hope to see you at the games,
Wally.

Rich:

One of Andrew’s friends has a brother playing offensive line at Purdue.  When I talked with him about Tiller, he said Tiller was coasting into retirement the last year or so.  So it wasn’t lost on the team, either.

vs. Toledo          W – sure, why not

at  Oregon          L – after last year, we will be at their mercy on the road

vs. NIU                 W – sure, why not

vs. ND                   W –great momentum builder

vs. Northwestern  W – ND momentum continues

at  Minnesota    L – ugly road loss

vs. OSU                L – real ugly home loss

vs. Illinois             W – their sand ran out

at  Wisconsin      L – I hope not; unbearable cheese-eating, red-wearing bastards

at  Michigan        L – won’t know what to do in the big house

vs. MSU               L – moderately ugly loss

at  Indiana           W – sorry, who is their coach again?

I think we will finally have a better ground game, and offensive line will benefit from Hope.  Thinking Purdue will morph into Iowa-ish team, good line play, short at backs.  Exciting even at 6-6.

Norm:  Well we have finally come full circle as far as Purdue’s on field success is concerned. I remember in 1995/1996 thinking that a .500 record on the field would be considered a solid year. .500 this year and we celebrate. Win 2-4 games and Morgan Burke himself will be wearing a sandwich board out on Cherry Lane saying “come one come all….first two beers on me!” OK Lets start!

Tailgate VS. Toledo – Win, sigh its already a “must” win.

@ Oregon – Loss – just hope we don’t get rolled and let the ducks get all cocky by halftime.    Tailgate VS NIU – WIN, if we lose….we are not Meatchiken vs App. St. but still…     Tailgate VS Notre Dame – LOSE. 8pm start time. Long hot day. Very annoying. Avoid ND fans at all cost, cuz they are back for the 20 year in a row or something. Keep away of the "house devided!    Tailgate VS Northwestern – LOSE – NU not bad – PU bad       @ Minnesota – LOSE – probably homecoming or something for the ghophers  Tailgate VS OSU – LOSE – sea of red in Ross Ade, might as well be an away game.     Tailgate VS Illinois – for some reason I think this will be the best tailgate of the year, oh wait I assume we will lose.    @ Wisconsin – LOSE    @Michigan – Lose, really does anyone think this team will break the streak @ ann arbor.   Tailgate VS MSU – Lose @ IU – WIN – Purdue and the Bucket go together like pea’s and carrots.    Final Note – I will go into every game this year for at least a half!  Norm

JOE TILLER'S TENURE

END ON AN UPSWING: BEAT A HIGHER PROFILE TEAM (OREGON?) - BEAT INDIANA - WIN BOWL GAME (BETTER THEN THE MOTOR CITY)

MANAGES OUR EXPECTATIONS ONE LAST TIME: LOSE TO OREGON, OHIO STATE, PENN STATE, MICHIGAN..JUST BEAT INDIANA...LOSE BOWL GAME...END YEAR JUST BETTER THAN 500.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES - I.E. GET OUT: TAKES VICTORY LAP WHILE MISSING PRACTICES AND COMPLAINS ENDLESLY ABOUT HOW HARD IT IS TO SELL THIS PROGRAM TO UNWORTHY FANS...LOSE TO IU.

2008

Wallman:
N. Col.    W  49 - 21   Nice payday for ex-asst. coach.
Oregon    L   21 - 38   Everyone else seems to think they are good.
CMU       W  47 - 42   Key game for Purdue, lose this and it gets ugly.
at ND      W  33 - 28   Hopefully they have not improved that much from last year.
PSU        L   17 - 31   If you can't go to jail, go to Penn State.
at OSU    L   10 - 41   They ain't ranked second for nothing, and we may be nothing.
at NU      W   35 - 24  They are still NU.
Minn       W   44 - 33   Rebuilding, but supposedly have some talented recruits.
UM          L    14 - 24   Still have us beat on talent on both O and D lines.
at MSU    L    24 - 27   Need to win one of these two road games!!!
at Iowa    W   31 - 25   See comment above.
IU           W   38 - 21   Hopefully the team will at least be pumped up for this game,
                                 we want our Bucket back.
A 7 - 5 record and another trip to a bowl game that nobody cares about.  Thanks for the first seven years Joe, they we a lot of fun and very exciting for the most part....Victory over ND  I still sometimes wonder how things would have turned out if Kyle hadn't fumbled the ball against UW in 2004.  It seemed like such a big turning point.
As they say its important to warm up and stretch before exercising, same thing for tailgating.  See you at the Pub, Friday, Sept. 5th, around 6 pm.
Wally

Niccole:
Hello Tailgaters!
As this is my first season as a John Purdue Club member and non-student season
ticket holder I'll throw in my two cents on picks. I wont even try to guess
scores...I'll just choose which games we make it back in for halftime.

N. Col W Big win against Div 1AA team, touchdowns on 3 of 4 first drives and we
dont even make it to halftime.

Oregon W If we can limit turnovers and keep our offense on the feild it will be
a shootout. Without a big advantage on time of possession and scoring on most
drives we will be close the first half but our defense will run out of steam
against their fast paced offense. We come back into ross ade at the start of the

4th.

CMU W How many times do we have to beat this team? Close game as they are
looking for redemption, we talk about going back in to the stadium but sucessful

mid/late third quarter drives and a big run by jaycen taylor against a tired
chippewa defense has us grabbing another beer.

at ND W Clausen while he has moments of greatness is still too young to handle
the pressure from Weis

Penn St W First big ten opponent, we are out for blood after our home shutout of

2006. Summers comes back after embarrasing 2006 game makes 50 yd feild goal to
secure the win. I sneak a flask in to watch the 4th.

at OSU L We are now ranked between 12-17 and here is the big huge loss that
brings us back to reality, Paul turns off the TV in the first five minutes of
the 2nd quarter.

at NU W As paul said...they are northwestern.

Minn W They didnt beat a single big ten team last year. Nuff said. The gophers
dont even make us consider putting the beer down.

Michigan L Our Rose bowl hopes are officially out the window as Ross-ade has
more blue than black and gold. But we enjoy some good gumbo (assuming my unit
gives me the weekend off)

at MSU W Coming off the home loss to michigan we capitalize on their loss of
Sean Lee and young D line and Paterno's conservative play calling. (I'm being
very optimistic on this one)

at Iowa W Lack of experience in the running game turn their offense one sided.
Off the feild issues continue to plague them and our experienced offense deals
well with the hostile home crowd to squeeze out a win.

IU W No way we lose to IU again. Need the bucket back. Hoeppner's ghost cant
pull a miracle this time. We sit by the fire the whole second half.

10-2 season, OSU does not go to the national championship again so BCS bowl game

is out of the question we go to outback bowl and choke. Bye Tiller.

Yeah yeah I'm being optimistic...but I am deploying this year...my teams never
lose when I am forced to be in uniform. I have a D lot pass this year, not sure
how many games I can go to b/c of train ups for the deployment so if my mom
doesnt want it and I cant go to certain games...I'll be happy to give it out.
Cheers All!

Niccole

So long Joe; hope you get some nice parting gifts from the big ten.  Painter sealed the deal with this crazy Heisman Trophy talk

 ME

Will Joe go out in style? Beat a team you shouldnt. Blow out IU and win a bowl game (better then the motor city bowl) Joe goes out on an upswing in the program.
Manage expectations? Beat IU. Lose Bowl game.
Hasta la vista Joe. Lose to IU.

Purdue VS. Northern Colorado - (WIN) 63 - 10. Worst team to come to Ross Ade in Tenure

Purdue VS. Oregon - (LOSE) 27-14. This a take the tempature of the Program game...Lose and we are who we thought we were...win and roll out the hype

Purdue VS. Central Michigan (WIN) 45 - 42. Beat Oregon and the Hype Says we are 3-0...lose to Oregon and hey this team is the exact same as last year.

Purdue @ Notre Dame (WIN) 24-17. This is take the tepature of fat charlies butt...Purdue wins Fatso gets fired or at least all of his asst. coaches do. I am giving Joe this call for his last year.

Purdue VS. Penn State (LOSE) 28-21.Purdue should have beat Penn State last year...but for a Ref that made horrible calls and later was found to have filed for bankrupcy twice, because of gambling debts...If purdue wins it might turn season around.

Purdue @ Ohio State (LOSE) 45 - 14

Purdue @ Northwestern (WIN) 35-24. Purdue gets a breather...and a defensive line they can handle..Purdue has better coaches

Purdue VS. Minnesota (WIN) 45 - 10. I don't know what Minnesota has as a coach

Purdue VS. Michigan (LOSS) 23 - 21 Michigan better on offensive and defensive lines

Purdue @ Michigan State (LOSS) 28 - 24 Like MSU coach

Purdue @ Iowa (WIN) 31 - 21. Is Kirk in trouble? Highest paid coach in the Big Ten

Purdue VS. IU (WIN) 63 - 10. Get the damm bucket back

Sept. 1st @ Toledo                W  35 - 33    Need to get off to a good start.
Sept. 8th VS. Eastern Illinois    W  44 - 14   The only sure win I see on the schedule.
Sept 15 VS. Central Michigan   W   28 - 24   If we don't win this one, I will never hear the end of it (only 20 miles from CMU).
Sept. 22 @ Minnesota            W   33 - 27   Should be able to beat a new coach with a mediocre team.
Sept 29 VS. Notre Dame          L    24 - 35  Losing at home to ND again will hurt.
Oct. 6th VS. Ohio State          L    10 - 38   Big time program, big time loss.
Oct. 13 @ Michigan                L    14 - 44   Ditto.
Oct 20 VS Iowa                     L    23 - 31   Another long middle of the year.
Oct. 27 VS Northwestern         W   34 - 22   Hopefully NW is still down.
Nov. 3rd @ Penn State            L    21 - 30   Ditto again.
Nov 10th VS. Mich. State         W   38 - 35   Usually a win for us.  We need to go 2 out of 3 against Michigan teams for my sanity.
Nov. 17th @ IU                       W   35 - 21   If you want to show some respect to them for losing Coach Hep, wait till after the game.
Unless Purdue's offense learns to play against the big boys and / or the defense learns to play at all, I am guessing we will see another 7 - 5 season and a trip to a bowl that the fans will care about even less than the team.

Toledo:  37 - 24 win
E Illinois:  35 - 21 win
C Michigan:  31 - 27 win

IU:  37 - 27 win

Off to a bad bowl game and maybe a shoot em out win over a poor team; good old
Purdue football.
Paul
A win against Iowa and 8-4 is likely but any loss in the first four games and this season could resemble 2005.  A win against ND and life is good.

Sept. 1st @ Toledo - (WIN) 38-24  We may not learn much from this game.
Sept. 8th VS. Eastern Illinois (WIN) 45-17 ditto
Sept 15 VS. Central Michigan (WIN) 37-27 Giving up too many points...hard to be optimistic with the 4 games starting with ND approaching.
Sept. 22 @ Minnesota (WIN) 31-21  The first must win.
Sept 29 VS. Notre Dame (LOSE) 31 - 24 First quarter Purdue struggles to score and falls behind by 2 TDs
Oct. 6th VS. Ohio State (LOSE) 38-21  no chance but at least it wasn't a complete embarrassment.
Oct. 13 @ Michigan (LOSE) 35-17  ditto..offence can't finish drives
Oct 20 VS Iowa (LOSE) 34-31 Fourth straight game the defence gives up 30+ points.

Oct. 27 VS Northwestern (WIN) 41-21  lose this one and it likely becomes Joe's longest losing streak.
Nov. 3rd @ Penn State (LOSE) 24-10  Not really that close as the offence sputters most of the day.
Nov 10th VS. Mich. State (WIN) 24-21  Good thing this one is at home.
Nov. 17th @ IU (WIN) 38-21  IU needs this one to get to 7-6...too bad.

Bowl game:  LOSS
Tim
Toledo: 34-21, lose (Purdue just has too tough a time winning in Ohio)
East. Ill: 63-3, win (The only game Painter will look like a future pro)
Cent. Mich.: 30-14, win
Minn.: 37-34, OT loss (The defense will crumble late in this game)
ND: 27-21,loss (Like we have seen before, the defense will choke in the final minutes)
Ohio St.: 27-24, loss (Have a feeling that a last minute field goal will be missed)
Michigan: 45-0, loss (Painter will be sacked 8 times, throw 4 picks, and fumble)
IOWA: 23-20, loss (Purdue will lead most of the game but blow it in the final two minutes)
Northwestern: 27-21, win
Penn State: 27-2, loss (Don't count on any offense in this game)
Michigan State: 28-14, win
Indiana: 29-17, win (Yet IU ends the season with a better record than the Boilers)
My prediction, after that horrid bowl performance, is that we will see a 5-7 season that shows slight defensive improvements, no running game(as usual), and an inconsistent quarterback that can pick apart bad defenses but has yet to prove himself to be more than mediocre.  I hope that I'm way off, but at least we'll have fun tailgating!!!
Frank
Toledo: 24-20, win
East. Ill: 49-17, win
Cent. Mich.: 27-24, win
Minn.: 49-12, win
ND: 21-20,loss (field goal missed with one min. to go)
Ohio St.: 35-3, loss (mercy)
Michigan: 42-10, loss (really ugly)
IOWA: 24-10, win
Northwestern: 24-20, win
Penn State: 49-10, loss (110,00 rabid lion fans, a scary place to play, worse
than the big house)
Michigan State: 35-7, win
Indiana: 28-27, win (IU does not bowl again)
A lot of close games against teams that should get blown out by the Boilers, but
the defense sleeps at least two quarters every game. This team could easily end
up 5-7 if they are not careful.

Minnesota:          28-21 win
Notre Dame:          31-28 loss
Ohio State:          28-21 loss
Michigan:          28-14 loss
Iowa:              35-21 win
Northwestern:          28-14 win
Penn State:          35-21 loss
Michigan State:      24-21 loss
IU:              31-7  win

7-5 and a minor bowl loss sounds like Boiler tradition.  If we get one win
out of the ND-OSU-Michigan train wreck, we will have a great season; if we
keep dignify, we'll have okay season.

With Joe Tiller closing practices to all fans (I.e., - people who support the program) and most media (i.e., - people who tell the fans what is going on) Its difficult to handicap the Boilers season this year. The offense should move the ball between the 20's like nobody's business and then struggle to score. The will not be able to pound away at more physical teams like Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa and (insert Bowl opponent hear). The defense was as bad or worse then the great Jim Coleto defenses of the early 90's (Remember the cocoon of horror?) last year and I assume they will be much improved but...well....GOD they were bad last year and if they are  a lot better that's still could be bad.
so....
Sept. 1st @ Toledo - (WIN) 41 - 31 - Lose and its gets ugly fast - I mean right now!
Sept. 8th VS. Eastern Illinois (WIN) 63 - 21 - The only sure bet until IU
Sept 15 VS. Central Michigan (WIN) 28 - 17 - Must win for winning season
Sept. 22 @ Minnesota (WIN) 35-28 - New coach at Minny, never been head coach before.
Sept 29 VS. Notre Dame (LOSE) 36 - 24 - Bummer! Don't think much of Weis, shows you how much I think of our defense.
Oct. 6th VS. Ohio State (LOSE) 31-28 - Summers misses field goal to go to overtime
Oct. 13 @ Michigan (LOSE) 31 - 0 - This Purdue team is worse then the last team we took to Ann Arbor an they lost 31-3
Oct 20 VS Iowa (WIN) 28-24 - Being a homer on this one, Purdue plays well after Michigan thumpin
Oct. 27 VS Northwestern (WIN) 51-21 - Painter looks bad against good teams but all world against other teams
Nov. 3rd @ Penn State (LOSE) 23-12- Penn State meaner and stronger
Nov 10th VS. Mich. State (WIN) 24-17 - Always beat Michigan State. I don't know why - Last Tailgate of the year
Nov. 17th @ IU (WIN) 41-14 Purdue and the Bucket go together like peas and carrots.
8-4
Then lose to whomever in Alamo Bowl
Send em in and we will post em.

2006

Wallman:

Its that time of year again, its time to get your predictions in for the 2006 Purdue football season.  Something tells me there aren't going to be any Preview Magazines picking Purdue to win the Big Ten this year.  As expected, all the talk out of Purdue is about the great chemistry they have.  They better have good chemistry, because they have a mostly new D-line and DB's.
I think the offense is going to have to carry this team and they might have to out score a few teams to win the early ones (thanks to Haden Frye for that great quote).  Lets hope Painter can look as good against teams with talent this year as he did last year against the bottom rung of the Big Ten.  The key to qualifying for a bowl game will be to get off to a good start against a weak early field.

ISU          W     52 - 14    Consider this a scrimmage, but you still have to pay full price.
Miami       W     28 - 22    Toughest game of the MAC attack.
BSU         W     45 - 21    A little more difficult than ISU.
Minn        W     27 - 24    Win game...go to bowl.  Lose game...long season.  All new RB's at Minn should lead to win.
@ND         L     17 - 38    Every time they have a coach I like, he gets fired?.
@Iowa      L     14 - 30    Its been a while since we won in Iowa.
@NU         L     27 - 31    Tough game to pick with NU coaching situation.
UW           W    28 - 21    Even though they have a new coach, we still want to beat those dirty Badgers.
PSU          L     20 - 24    Joe Pa just keeps on ticking.  There must be a picture of "Dorian Paterno" somewhere in his home.
@MSU      L      27 - 28    Win NU and / or MSU, and we could go to a better bowl game.
@UI         W     30 - 17    They still stink.
IU            W     35 - 14    They still really stink.  Bring the tissues for Coach Hep.
@Hawaii     L     45 - 48    Long flight, lots of distractions, and lots of offense.
Thank god the NCAA doesn't allow a football playoff so the Boilers will only have to go through 13 games and a 7-6 season.  I still think Painter is the key to the year.  If we are to be basketball on grass, we need a leader at QB who can stay healthy and throw the ball against good and bad teams.
Go Boilers!!
Wally.
Rich:

Lady and Gentleman

Looking forward to a great year.  I am trying to not wear the Cubs pre-season rose colored glasses, but Boilers could win a few this year.

See you sometime in WL, let me know if you want to hook up in Evanston.

Rich

                Purdue  them

ISU             W       33      12      'Throwback Game'?  Try throw-away.

Miami           W       31      21      Family Day?  Bring the family to watch a MAC team.

BSU             W       33      7       Warming up, watch out for regular season, it's coming up.

Minnesota       W       28      21      First Big 10 win, Minnesota should be rebuilding this year.

@ND             L       14      28      Return to normalcy.  Notre Dame will rule this series unless Weis is back in NFL.

@Iowa           L       6       21      Iowa reminds me of Wisconsin under early Barry - beats you and bores you at the same time.

@NU             W       24      17      Boilers manage a win.  Anyone interested in going to Evanston?

UW              L       10      14      Badgers have freshman running back, and new coach.  Will Boilers please win  one some year?

PSU             W       24      21      Snuck in a win when Penn State wasn't looking.

@MSU            L       17      24      Oops, overlook State.

@UI             W       31      14      Pre-season round 2 begins this week.

IU              W       31      7       Pre-season again again.

@Hawaii L       34      35      Purdue should consider this a bowl, and will probably lose as a result.

                8-5

 random thoughts:

 * How did we manage to keep Michigan and Ohio State off the schedule again

* I don't know how the Boilers are a 8-5 team, but that cupcake schedule is going to take us to a bowl.

* Stanford and Purdue both play 4 respective in-state teams this year.  Has to be some kind of record.  Unfortunately for Stanford, they play San Jose State, UCLA, USC, and Cal-Berkeley.

John:

This is the year; we get to go back to the Alamo!

ISU     W 35 – 10

Miami     W 31 – 24

BSU     W 48 – 21

MINN     W 31 – 17

@ND     L 21 – 48

@Iowa     L 28 – 35

@NW     W 27 – 24

PSU     L 14 – 38

@MSU     L 31 – 34

@UI     W 24 – 17

IU     W 41 – 31

@Hawaii    W 38 – 31

8 – 4; great year with some exiting football...wish I could be there.

Purdue should win 7-8 games this year, most 9, worst 6. But without Michigan or Ohio State on the schedule and playing 13 games a 7 or 8 win year is a .500 or worse record in reality. If we only win 7 games that would be two years in a row with a losing record. Purdue football is 6-11 in the last 17 games and with 5 new assistant coaches and 11 JC transfers a 7 win season would lead me to believe that the salad days of Purdue football are long gone. In my opinion this is the most important season of Joe Tillers Tenure at Purdue. Win 8 or 9 and maybe the Boilers are back on track toward a season like 1999 or 2000, win 6 or 7 and I cant see more then 5 wins the next year or the year after that. So to get to 9 wins the boilers must start 4-0 go undefeated at home and beat Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State and Michigan State.

Norm

ISU WIN 49 - 3 Everybody plays
Miami WIN 24 - 14 hopefully no turnovers (lose and it could get ugly fast)
Ball State WIN 31 - 7
Minnesota WIN 21 - 10 Must Win*
@ Notre Dame LOSS 13 - 31 God I hope is not worse.
@IOWA LOSS 17 - 21 Ferenz best coach in Big Ten
@NW WIN 34 - 14 Must win*
Wisconsin LOSS 21 - 20 I am sorry but physical teams own us
Penn State WIN 24 - 14 Joe Pa's run is long over, last year was the exception.*
@ Michigan State WIN 31 - 24 MSU always fades at the end of the year, they lose to Michigan they quit.*
@ Illinois WIN 31 - 17 Illini worst team of the decade in the Big Ten
IU WIN 49 - 10 Joe knows how to keep the faithful buying tickets
@ Hawaii  LOSS 35 - 31 I have no clue how this game will play out.
9-4 is as rosey as I can paint it. * Four games that could go either way and I am saying Purdue must win 3 of them or we might be back to the good ole Colleto days. This season will leave its stamp on the next 5.
Paul
Without buying into much of the propaganda generated by Purdue "brass" again this year, I think the Boilers have a chance at winning 9 regular season games but they could tank pretty fast if Painter can't throw strikes.
ISU--win 44-10  good start...no surprises
Miami--win 38-24  not that impressive but better than last year's 2-0 start which looked really suspect (and was).
BSU--win 31-10  end of the pre-season... or is it?
Minn--win 35-17  running back issues are not all that is wrong with Bill Murray's friends.
@ND--loss 35-20  This could be real ugly but the Boilers keep the score respectable.
@Iowa--loss 38-20  Second week against tough QB...not as close as the score.
@NW--Win  31-24  Need this game...tough to prepare for after the previous two road games.
Wisc--Win  34-31  Another must have game...Wisc isn't that good but PU must/should perform
PSU--loss  31-17  Hard loss/let-down at home
@MSU--loss 35-21  Trouble again on the road.
@Ill--win 38-21  Offense looking good/clicking at the right time or lousy opponent?.
IU--win  48-17  IU is just that bad.
@Hawaii--win 38-31  Just because I want PU to go to a better bowl...the Wisc, MSU and Hawaii game could all go either way and we always seem to lose one unexpected game...we need two of three of these for a good bowl.

Wallman:

Akron   Win   30 - Zip

@Az     Loss  12 -  7  The ugliest game of the year and a real trap for the Boilers.

@Minn  Win   17 - 10  Minn will be worn down from their preseason schedule.

ND       Win   24 - 15

Iowa    Loss  21 - 14

NU       Win   31 - 14  How can homecoming be at the end of three straight home games.

@UW    Loss  20 - 13  We always struggle on the road against big crowds.

@PSU   Win   24 - 14  Somebody turn Joe Pa over, he's done.

MSU     Win   20 - 17

UI        Win   28 - 10  The Fighting Illini are offensive to native Americans, because they stink.

@IU      Win  31 - 14  What's the over / under on the new coach's tenure.

The attached website contains information on all types of drug testing because if you two guys think Purdue is going 10-1, you need some testing.  Start with the THC test and work your way down from there.  The only thing saving us from a 6-5 season is a really weak schedule.  The defensive front seven should be the best in the Big Ten and they should take enough pressure off the DB's that the overall defense should be top two.  The offense could be the worst we've seen since the Fred Akers era.  The o-line is a big question mark, our best WR should have played B-ball, and Kirsch couldn't start for the Bears.

John:

I agree with Wally, Boilers fall flat with some poor offensive showings; and fans start asking questions about Joe.

@Arizona 24 - 10(WIN) Tough game in the heat, Purdue has always struggled in heat
@Minn. 21 - 10(WIN) Mason has yet to beat Joe
Notre Dame 35 - 14(WIN) Return to glory Mach 3 for the Irish
Iowa 24 - 21(WIN) Late Ben Jones Field goal. Ferenz = best coach in big ten.
Northwestern(WIN) 48 - 6 Boilers Roll
@Wisc. 24 - 17(win) Will this be the game that the oline shows its weakness?
@Penn St. 17 - 28(LOSS) Penn St. has everybody back on D, Lots of Turnovers.
Michigan State 45 - 21(WIN) Kirsh outdules Stanton
Illini 35 - 14(WIN) Illini long way from winning
@IU 24 -7(WIN) Like IUs new coach, best since Mallory. No Material to work with.
10 - 1 Big Ten Champs lose big to Oklahoma in Sugar Bowl. Maybe 9-2, at worst 8-3. @Zona, home for Iowa, @ Wisc and Penn State are 4 games that we need to win three to justify the expectations.
Jeff
Akron:  W 31-10. Kirsch has an average opening game. Defense dominates
@Arizona  W 16-6. Maybe the ugliest game of the year. Watch Stoops go crazy on the sidelines. Biggest whiner since Gary Williams was in the Big 10
@MinnW 35-17. Offense starts to roll. Kory Sheets starts to dominate
Notre Dame W 24-20. Quinn takes a beating but looks good. Boilers win on last drive.
Iowa W 20-10. Typical defensive struggle.
Northwestern W 31-7 Payback for last year
@WiscL 20-17 Alverez wins last game against the Boilers. Kicking game lets the Boilers down
@Penn St. W 28-10 Joe Pa resigns after the game.
Michigan State W 42-35. Shootout.  Ingraham scored 2 late TD's to win
Illini W 35-14 Zook can recruit but can't game coach. Spread offense option kills them
@IUW 38-24 IU makes improvements under another Miami Ohio coach.
10-1 Tie for Big Ten. Play Tennessee in Citrus Bowl. Everyone is welcome to come to Orlando for new years.

SYR  W   There's a reason they almost fired their coach and the ACC didn't
want them.
BSU  W   Finally a MAC team we can beat.
UI     W   Still rebuilding.  What do you expect from an ex-Bear asst.
coach?.
ND    L    Damn that Hooiser Dome opening game, it was probably our last
chance to win at SB.
PSU   L   We don't do well on the road against 90,000+, so unless a lot of
people don't show up.
UW   W   Got to beat those "Dirty Badgers".  This is a key game for our Bowl
hopes.
UM    L   They are still Michigan and we are still Purdue.  No matter what
Joe and Morgan say.
NU    W  They are still Northwestern and we are still Purdue.
IA     L    The last year for Old Kinnick Stadium before it gets Ross Ade
style face lift.
OSU  W   Upset special.  A little payback for last years crushing loss.
IU     W   I wonder what Bill Mallory is doing?.

As my favorite sports handicapper says...."the numbers never lie", it looks
like a 7-4 season and another trip to our home away from home....Texas
(hopefully SA and not EP).

John

SYR:  Win
BSU:  Win
ILL:  Win
ND:  Loss (4 PU turnovers)

Syracuse - Win - 31 - 14 Syracuse is a running team, Brock Spack has been able to stop the run for 5 years.
Ball State - Win - 38 - 7, poor Mac team
Illinois - WIN - 31 - 24, Illini bad, but Its tough playing anyone before ND
ND - Loss - 21 - 20, I hate this game, Purdue should have won every game in this series since 97 except for the 1999 game (which we won) and we are 3-4. If Purdue wins Tyrone will be fired at the end of the year. Huge game!
PSU - Loss - 17 - 14, Purdue receivers always take a big away game off. Its ether this or @ Iowa
Wisc. - Win - 24 - 12, huge homecoming after long time away from Ross Ade - WHAT A TAILGATE IT WILL BE - Wally cooks - we don't lose!. Joe gets winning record against Barry before Barry retires.
Mich. - Win - 28 - 21, Upset Special! UM plays @ Ohio St. so no big ten title anyway. Receivers make up for last year @ UM
Northwestern - WIN - 34 - 7
Iowa - Win - 14 - 3 - Receivers must play, this is last years Ohio State game. Iowa replaces everyone on offense. Coming of age game for the young D for the boilers
Ohio State - Loss - 24 - 17, Ohio State marches toward NCAA Title shot
IU - Win - 34 - 10, IU Should be the most improved team in the Big Ten with 20 returning starters, just don't think it will mean more then 4 or 5 wins for them.
8-3 Florida to play Tennessee in the outback

* The ofensive line has to improve 10 times over last year. If we can rush for over 160 yards and have fewer turn overs then who we are playing then the dropped passes won't be drive killers. If we can't run and string together some first downs on a consistant bases, some of the wins will be loses. 9-3 season and citrus bowl - if we average more then 160 yards a game rushing and fewer then 4 drops per game. run like last year - then 7-5 season and back to Texas.

09/21/2002 Wake Forest (win)
09/28/2002 Minnesota (win -its mason after all)
10/05/2002 at Iowa (*win)
10/12/2002 at Illinois (*win)
10/19/2002 Michigan (lose)
10/26/2002 at Northwestern (win - Northwestern is my pick for worst in the big ten)
11/09/2002 Ohio State (lose - my pick for best in the big ten now that Belesari is gone)
11/16/2002 at Michigan State (lose although I am not sure why a lot of people think Mich St. will be so good this year)
11/23/2002 Indiana (win - time to rip off 4 more years worth of W's in this series)

08/31/2002 Illinois State Huge Win
09/07/2002 at Notre Dame Lose by One on a blocked extra point
09/14/2002 Western Michigan Big Win
09/21/2002 Wake Forest- Wake is almost good. Win by a field goal
09/28/2002 Minnesota Win in regulation this year
10/05/2002 at Iowa Orton too much pressure going home Loss
10/12/2002 at Illinois Nephew's best friend Taman Jordan kickoff return for a touchdown the difference Loss
10/19/2002 Michigan Upset, Boilers Win Lloyd Carr screws up again
10/26/2002 at Northwestern WIn- Yes the Cats are bad!
11/09/2002 Ohio State I am not sure why people think Ohio State is any good. Too young. Boilers win in a close one
11/16/2002 at Michigan State Smoker is choker. Boilers win
11/23/2002 Indiana Thank God IU hired DiNardo. More Purdue wins in the Old Oaken Bucket series to follow

That leaves my predictions at 9-3. WIth an undefeated home record.

Another trip to Tampa where we can get Norm to spray us with crab again when we beat the Florida Gators.

ISU Win We can beat up on the nobody's as well as anyone.
@ ND Loss I can't remember a win at ND, so why should this year be any different.
WMU Win We can beat any MAC team but Toledo, and probably Marshall.
WFU Win This is not basketball.
Minn Win Hopefully they will not run the ball as well as last year.
@ Iowa Win Need a big road win, with UI, UM, and OSU coming up.
@ Illinois Loss Not sure how UI will be w/o Kitner?, assuming home field will win.
Michigan Loss Unless our running game is really improved, beating UM will be tough.
@ NU Win Need this road win in-between all the big games.
OSU Loss Another team we beat once a decade.
@ MSU Loss We have had a lot of luck against them, occasionally it runs out.
Indiana Win I think IU will be 2-9 or 3-8 (or worse). No mo El.

Key Games : Iowa, Illinois, NU, and MSU will decide whether its fun in the sun with all the crab you can
eat or Bock's on the Riverwalk. Right now I am leaning to the Bock's. I think our offense
will be improved, but I still have a lot of concerns about our ability to run the ball and lack
of big WR's. The Vegas gold uniforms may also be worth a loss, send them back to Georgia
Tech where they belong. So here's to the "old Gold and Black" and another great year of
Purdue football and the "real fans" at Rowe Brother's Tailgate.

More to follow.
